Randy Pausch’s View of Life
Randolph Frederick “Randy” Pausch (an American professor of computer science and human-computer interaction and design at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) learned that he had pancreatic cancer in September 2006, and in August 2007 he was given a terminal diagnosis: “3 to 6 months of good health left”. He gave an upbeat lecture titled ” The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” on September 18, 2007, at Carnegie Mellon, which became a popular YouTube video and led to other media appearances.

“Anything is possible, and that’s something we should not lose sight of. The inspiration and the permission to dream is huge.”
“Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”–wasn’t about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because “time is all you have…and you may find one day that you have less than you think”).
1. Don’t complain, just work harder.
2. Treat the disease, not the symptom.
3. Don’t obsess over what people think.
4. Check egos at the door.
5. Praise each other.
6. Look for the best in everybody.
7. Watch what they do, not what they say.
8. Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.
