Do Whatever It Takes

Your life, with all its ups and downs, has molded you for the greater good. Your life has been exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the current moment. And every moment of your life, including this one right now, is a fresh start. If you have the courage to admit when you’re scared, the ability to laugh even as you cry, the nerve to speak up even if your voice is shaking, the confidence to ask for help when you need it, and the wisdom to take it when it’s offered, then you have everything you need to get yourself to a better place.

Ordinary people choose the way of I cannot do it; successful people choose the way of I can do it. I think it is time for us to start giving certain words their proper meaning. An example is the word “impossible”. Impossible doesn’t mean it cannot be done, it only means it is yet to be accomplished. Until this is done, man will continually live in the illusion of inability and hopelessness. Provoke your inner energy; Challenge yourself and you will achieve amazing things. Be your biggest competitor – challenge yourself each day to be better than you were yesterday. A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes hard work.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. People who lack the clarity, courage, or determination to follow their own dreams will often find ways to discourage yours. When you change for the better, the people around you will be inspired to change also….but only after doing their best to make you stop. Live your truth and don’t EVER stop.

Whatever you do, do with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best. Whether you want to be a chef, doctor, actor, or a mother, be passionate to get the best result. Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.

You cannot let a fear of failure or a fear of comparison or a fear of judgment stop you from doing the things that will make you great. You cannot succeed without the risk of failure. You cannot have a voice without the risk of criticism. You cannot love without the risk of loss. You must take these risks. I just got one last thing; I urge all of you, all of you, to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm, to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have.

Do Whatever It Takes

What is that in your hand?

‘What is that in your hand?’

When God called Moses, one of the first questions He asked him was: ‘What is that in your hand?’ Moses was holding his shepherd’s staff – the one he used each day to lead and protect his sheep. But God had a different plan for it – a greater one! He used it to part the Red Sea and lead Israel into the Promised Land. When God asks you, ‘What is that in your hand?’ He wants you to think about your talents, experiences, relationships, education, resources, your mind and your temperament. – By Bob Bass

From the quote above, God just had to show Moses, Moses had all he needed to succeed. So also, I am bringing to your notice today, you have all you need to achieve that your desired goal(s). Understand this, all you have been through up until this time are no accidents, they are by design the exact things you need to push you to where you need to be. Your experiences, talent(s), lessons, trials, triumphs are just to get you in tune for what you have always wanted. But you have to be able to harness all these positively to make them work for you.

It may not seem much what you have but once you can take that big bold step, you will realize you have more than enough. You are equipped to succeed by default, no one is useless, no one is designed to be a failure, no one is destined to be irrelevant, we are all a product of a God that never fails, but we have to be willing to do our part; take the step, test our limits and go against all odds. It may not be easy but like I will always say, it will be worth it.

New day is always a reminder of the fact that you can start afresh any time you choose to, it goes dark and then it is morning, everything starts afresh. It is never late to change, make a choice, choose a path, find a new something worthwhile doing or meet that dream person of yours. Whichever level you think you are, you can always move to the next, but it is by choice, by deliberate attempt to better your yesterday while setting new heights for yourself.

So much depends on the choice you make now going forward. Remember, you have all it takes, don’t doubt yourself like Moses did at first, you are made for something extraordinary and you can do it. Your dreams may be scary, may look impossible but God gave you them for a reason and without a doubt I have strong conviction that you are just what those dreams need to come alive.

Keep going!

Ways to people’s heart

Ways to people’s heart

There is this common saying that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so true especially if the man is me. But then why would we need a way to anyone’s heart? Imagine having a way to the president’s heart, what kind of leap or lift that will give your personality or better still your career and ultimately your life.

We need to find ways into people’s heart for just one reason, to have them on Our Team; on our own side of the equation of life!

Warming your way into People’s Heart is not an easy task, not one that only good food can guarantee especially since not everyone is like me, plus trying to feed everyone will definitely cost you so much. So here are few tips that might help you to warm your way up:

1. Be funny

Being funny is the oldest trick to get people to like you. In the olden days, the kings would have servants around them just to crack them up; the funnier, the more presents from the king. This idea still works! Examples, most ladies for instance go for the funny guys, most events now crave for stand up comedians, most presentations start with a joke to lighten up the mood… that’s the extent of the power of jokes. So be funny, most people will want you around and most likely won’t forget you in a hurry but also be careful not to overdo it because there is just a thin line between being funny and being a joke (jerk).

2. Prove you can be loyal
The “48 laws of power” calls this selective loyalty. This is loyalty for an end purpose. People tend to love someone they can trust, and all you have to do is prove you are trustworthy. Watch their back even when they have not asked you to, when you see something that can hurt them, prevent it and make sure you take credit for it. Understand that the purpose is not just to be good (even though you should be good), the purpose is to take credit for being good. Rich men have been known to even give tests just to see, if their men are loyal. So yes!  pass the test and you will warm your way up.

3. Let them believe they are gaining more
It is in the nature of people generally to like someone they can benefit from, while they try to avoid someone who tends to be a liability. So let them have the feeling they are gaining more from the relationship. Just the way most people remember you when you need to do something for them, create a feeling that they will always need you. Be good at so many things and render your service so selflessly. Just be a candle and people will need your light.

4. Be different
Basically be unique and know your worth. Don’t try to be like everybody or try to fit in, you will just end up being one of the rest and most likely anonymous to the essential people. Standout, you will be appreciated, more people will want to be around you and most of them will want to give all to stay around you. Know your worth but don’t wear it in pride, be creative, be about solutions and not problems, make suggestions and not criticisms but above all, show people why they need you.

To have a devoted team, you have to connect with each and everyone on your team emotionally; that helps establish the strongest bond of loyalty.

5. Relate with their stories
People like someone who can relate with their stories. Most people have emotional side, so always find a common ground with people you want to get close to. Relate with their stories, lives or experiences, it creates a kind of mental bond with them and keeps you in a special place in their heart. For instance, when you meet someone you want to get close to, find something the person is or has gone through that you have also gone through; like heartbreaks, loss of loved ones, winning against odds etc., that way they will always have a soft spot for you.

You are building a team of people who can help you achieve your dreams; some younger, some older, people of different fields, people of different aspirations, all these people must have one thing in common and that is the desire to want to be on your team.

DEAR DREAMER

Dear Reader,

This is a letter you must to read…a must!

POTTERS MAGAZINE

Dear Creative Soul,

Thanks for the time we have shared together in times past. The laughter. The tears and the successes that came afterwards. I had no doubt we were going places, after all. I particularly love your zest to life. All things bright and beautiful, so you once told me.

However, I think we may be derailing lately. And I’m sure you don’t even notice. We have been falling apart and here are the pieces of us left. I’m summoning the courage to put them together as I write you this letter.

First of all, what happened to our dreams? Yea. Those dreams that lit your eyes in the dark. Those dreams that woke you up at night. What really happened to them? Are they now out of reach? What on earth made you shut the door on them? I bet you forgot that they were merely dreams. They…

Difficulties And Dreams

Difficulties And Dreams

I don’t know what that dream is that you have. I don’t care how disappointing it might have been, as you have been working towards that dream but that dream that you are holding in your mind, that dream is possible.

image

Some of you already know that it is hard, it is not easy, and it is hard changing your life. In the process of working on your dreams you are going to incur a lot of disappointments, a lot of failures, a lot of pains, there are moments that you are going to doubt yourself, and ask God, ‘God why is this happening to me?”  But know these hardship have not come to stay, they have come to pass.

image

Someone’s opinion of you does not have to be your reality, you don’t have to go through life being a victim and even though you face disappointments, you will have to know within yourself that, “i can do this, even if no one sees it for me, i must see it myself and no matter how bad it is or how bad it gets, i am going to make it”

“This is what i believe and I am willing to die for it, period”

The Fine Art of Mentoring

The Fine Art of Mentoring

By Tommy Kiedis

You’ll go farther faster with a mentor.”

What Is A Mentor?

In his book, The Fine Art of Mentoring, Ted Engstrom provides some helpful historical background to the concept.
The term “mentor,” a catchword surfacing in discussions about leadership development today, arises from an unlikely source. It
first appeared in Greek mythology when Ulysses asked a wise man name Mentor in Homer’s Odyssey to care for his son, Telemachus, while Ulysses was fighting in the Trojan War. Mentor taught the boy ‘not only in book learning but also in the wiles of the world.’ . . . The fabled Mentor must have done his job well, because Telemachus grew up to be an enterprising lad who gallantly helped his father recover his kingdom.

Mentors are wise folks who help us go farther and faster than we could by traveling alone. The Bible is full of mentoring relationships: Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Solomon and David, and Paul and Timothy to name a few. Here are four ways I have seen the concept defined or explained:
Mentoring is brain to pick, a shoulder to cry on, and a kick in the pants. John Crosby, The Uncommon Individual Foundation
Mentoring is passing on to others what God has given to you. Ted Engstrom, The Fine Art of Mentoring
A mentor is someone who helps you find your unique voice for kingdom service. Keith R.Anderson & Randy D. Reese, Spiritual Mentoring
A mentor is someone who develops me. John Maxwell
While these descriptions vary, they point out key facets of mentoring:
(1) Mentoring is relational
(2) Mentors invest in their mentees by passing on critical information and skills,
(3) Mentors help mentees find their voice for kingdom service.
In the end, mentoring is transformational.

Five Benefits Of Having A Mentor

image

Those who do the hard work of engaging in the mentoring process will reap huge benefits. I use the term “hard work” purposefully. Mentees must seek out their mentor–not an easy task. They must assume the role of student. They must listen. They must be willing to receive constructive criticism. There are no short-cuts to this process. It is profitable but prolonged, joyful but grueling, helpful but hard. Those who endure the process earn the prize:

1. Mentors will impart wisdom
God admonishes us to be wisdom chasers. He says, “Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Mentors impart wisdom. The help us understand life and how it works. They do this by sharing life lessons, by revealing key learnings, by probing the inner recesses of our hearts, and by prodding us to dig deeper and try harder. When we walk with them, we too become wise (Proverbs 13:20).

2. Mentors will help you go farther faster Recently, I sat down with Bill Hybels and a small group of pastors for a mentoring session. The three- hour session was free, but I had to invest the time and money to get to Chicago. As I did a preliminarybcost-benefits analysis, I did not intend to participate. The flight and hotel were not cheap, I had a ton of work on my plate, and I didn’t have time! But at the prodding of a friend, I attended the session.
Retrospectively, I would have invested three times what I “paid” for what I gained in those three hours.vRubbing shoulders with that world- class leader, I received some key insight for my own life and a fire-hose of fresh ideas for our church. This is helping me go farther faster. Such is the benefit of mentoring.

3. Mentors will tell you the truth
In the late 80′s and early 90′s I was engaged in doctoral research. I was reading a few thousand pages, thinking very carefully, writing a ton, and formulating a strategic plan for the church I was serving at the time. I had just put my heart-and-soul into a paper and was eagerly looking forward to some well-deserved kudos from my professor, Dr. Roberta Hestenes. Dr. Hestenes was an expert on the subject I had just written about. She reviewed my paper and my strategic plan. Her note was concise and not particularly encouraging, but it was true. I had greatly underestimated the time it would take for my plan to come to fruition. She saw that immediately and told me so. I wanted a pat on the back, but she gave me the truth because that is what I needed to get better. I will never forget that encounter.

4. Mentors will believe in you
While mentors may say the hard words from time-to-time, they are investing time in you because they believe in you. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Our chief want in life is somebody who shall make us do what we can.” Mentors help us get where we want to go. Like Barnabas, they believe the best. When Paul became a follower of Christ, people avoided him like the plague. Why not? He had been a persecutor of Christian. Barnabas was different. He believed in Paul. And when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seenthe Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. Acts 9:26-27. Mentors are important because they see in us what others do not. Then they help draw it out.

5. Mentors will help you find your unique voice
Great mentors don’t try to reproduce a carbon copy of themselves in their mentees. They are not on an ego trip. They recognize that God has given you a voice, a unique role to play in his kingdom. Mentors help you find that voice. Their desire is to help shape you into what God wants you to become.

Why Don’t We Seek Mentors?

There are so many benefits to being mentored one would think that leaders would search for them like Cortez’s treasure. That is not the case.
Why is it that we don’t always seek mentoring relationships? We don’t seek mentors because we are too busy. The mistaken assumption here is “I don’t have time.” The fact is that you don’t have time not to be mentored. Make the time.
We don’t seek mentors because we are too insecure. If you are afraid of having weaknesses revealed you will get stuck in the rut of your own weaknesses. To embrace the opportunity for improvement is to welcome criticism. Put out the welcome mat!
We don’t seek mentors because we are too proud. Proud people have an attitude that says, “You can’t teach me.” Humble people know they can learn from anyone. Emerson said, “In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some
way, and in that I learn from him.”
We don’t seek mentors because we are too afraid to ask. Some people are afraid of having their request to bementored denied. I have two thoughts about this: (1) Don’t say someone’s “No” for them. The person you are thinking
about might be delighted to be asked. (2) Trust God’s providence. God is sovereign. He will provide someone for you, but you must ask. If you get turned down, go ask
someone else. Push past your fear. Get the help you need.

Get Ahead With A Mentor Today
In the article, “Get Ahead With a Mentor Who Scares You,” Jodi Glickman writes, “Go out and find the most qualified or talented mentor, coach, or manager you can, and subject yourself to everything they can throw at you.”
That’s great advice. Act on it. Here are three steps you can take today:
1. Name one area where you want to improve.
2. Name three people within your sphere of relationships who might be able to help you improve.
3. Give one of them a call today.
Invite that person to lunch. Prepare five questions you want
to ask.
Mentors will help you go farther faster. Take a step to get connected with a mentor today!

30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself

30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself

Shared by: Okhai Overcomer Onyebuchi

1. Stop spending time with the wrong people. It’s useless spending time with people who don’t know your worth.

2. Stop running from your problems. Face them head on.

3. Stop lying to yourself.

4. Stop putting your own needs on the back burner. Yes, help others; but help yourself too.

5. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.

6. Stop trying to hold onto the past. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.

7. Stop being scared to make a mistake. Every success has a trail of failures behind it, and every failure is leading towards success.

8. Stop berating yourself for old mistakes. Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come.

9. Stop trying to buy happiness. The things that really satisfy us are totally free – love, laughter and working on our passions.

10. Stop exclusively looking to others for happiness. – If you’re not happy with who you are on the inside, you won’t be happy in a long-term relationship with anyone else either.

11. Stop being idle. Evaluate situations and take decisive action.

12. Stop thinking you’re not ready. Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises.

13. Stop getting involved in relationships for the wrong reasons. Fall in love when you’re ready, not when you’re lonely.

14. Stop rejecting new relationships just because old ones didn’t work. Some will test you, some will use you and some will teach you.

15. Stop trying to compete against everyone else. Success is a battle between YOU and YOURSELF only.

16. Stop being jealous of others. There’s something you have that everyone wants!

17. Stop complaining and feeling sorry for yourself. Smile! Let everyone know that today you are a lot stronger than you were yesterday, and you will be.

18. Stop holding grudges. Forgiveness is not just for other people, it’s for you too.

19. Stop letting others bring you down to their level. Refuse to lower your standards to accommodate those who refuse to raise theirs.

20. Stop wasting time explaining yourself to others. Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it anyway. Just do what you know in your heart is right.

21. Stop doing the same things over and over without taking a break. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. Sometimes you need to distance yourself to see things clearly.

22. Stop overlooking the beauty of small moments. Enjoy the little things, because one day you may look back and discover they were the big things.

23. Stop trying to make things perfect. – The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists; it rewards people who get things done.

24. Stop following the path of least resistance. Don’t take the easy way out. Do something extraordinary.

25. Stop acting like everything is fine if it isn’t. It’s okay to fall apart for a little while. Cry if you need to – it’s healthy to shed your tears. The sooner you do, the sooner you will be able to smile again.

26. Stop blaming others for your troubles. The extent to which you can achieve your dreams depends on the extent to which you take responsibility for your life.

27. Stop trying to be everything to everyone. Doing so is impossible, and trying will only burn you out.

28. Stop worrying so much. Worry will not strip tomorrow of its burdens, it will strip today of its joy.

29. Stop focusing on what you don’t want to happen. Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story.

30. Stop being ungrateful. No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life.

Get Crazy, Get Attention

GET CRAZY, GET ATTENTION!!!

We live in a crowded world, where too many people are doing the same thing at the same time. Little wonder why the majority of people struggle for years in their chosen vocation, without being able to record a breakthrough.

“For you to become successful in your vocation, people must recognize you.”

It is that recognition that will gravitate the force of patronage in your direction. So, gaining the attention of your target population is key in the success of your venture. If it is indeed Germaine to gain attention in order to succeed, why then do people not make conscious efforts to swerve the wave of attention in theirfavour? Me thinks it is ignorance.

“Let me quickly state here that seeking attention is not the first thing to be embarked upon by anyone who seeks to succeed. The first ingredient therein is excellence.”

You must first commit your all to your vocation and attain utmost proficiency theretofore. It is unfortunate these days therefore to see young men desperately seek attention and recognition, with no single achievement to point at. That is a misplaced priority. The order should be; seek excellence in your vocation then swerve attention in your direction.

Quite unfortunately over the years, I have seen a number of persons who are committed to the pursuit of their dreams en excellence and have become relatively successful theretofore, but are less known. Their latitude of influence and patronage thus will be limited to the confines within which they are known.Since attention is a necessary ingredient in the progression to the next level, why then do people not go about seeking it?

My findings showed that the majority of people do not know how to go about it, hence a passive resolution to maintain the status quo. Some of those who do know the importance however go about it the wrong way, getting bruised in the process, leaving them worse off.

Last week, I watched a programme on cable television where a Fuji star, Abas Obesere was being interviewed. The presenter of the programme asked to know why he was wearing brazier for stage performances several years ago, when he was an upcoming musician but no longer does that now. I found his answer amusing.

According to the artiste, when he was to start his musical career, he knew he had a mountain to climb. That mountain is attention. How would he get the attention of the populace amidst the teeming numbers of Fuji musicians all over the place? So what he did was to think and do something out of the box. He decided to appear on stage in braziers, dressed like a lady. And indeed, when he started singing and people saw him perform, the first question on the lips of everyone is”who is this madman”? That “madness” caught the attention of people and made everyone look in his direction. Soon, news went around that there was this new “crazy” Fuji musician in town and in no time, Abas Obesere became a household name!

Seeing that he has achieved his goal of swerving attention in his direction and has become recognised by his target audience, he stopped doing stage performances dressed like a woman. Today, he dresses formally in his outings. He thought and acted out of the box to achieve his desired objective.

image

In the case of Obesere, he went weird to get attention. You may not necessarily do something weird to get the needed attention in your vocation. But you must sure do something differently from the way others do it.

Whatever venture it is you want to go into, there are people who have been into it for years. Why then would people suddenly abandon these age long horses for a new-comer you? Thatcan only happen if you are offering something that others have not offered over the years. To achieve that, you must think outside the box and do something that will make people look in your direction.

“Ever heard of the word “packaging”?”

I’m not referring to the negative use ofit, whereby a thing is blown out of proportion en cloak of doctored exaggerations. I refer to doing your thing with a touch of excellence, paying attention to details and catching in on the lacuna created by others in your quest for ‘customer’ satisfaction.

In all, one thing is certain and that is the fact that innovation commands attention. You can only command attention if you introduce a novelty, doing something differently from how others have done it over the years.

For you to move up to the next level of your sphere, you need that attention for it is the key that will open the door of your ultimate catapultion to the realm of infinite manifestation. You may not get weird to achieve it. But you must think out of the box to so do.

“Are you truly ready to manifest? If yes, then get crazy, get attention!”
