In other words, getting closer to God through Christ to be rich is just like going to school so you can be rich, one is not necessary a prerequisite of the other. You can be rich without God, just as you can be rich without going to school, examples of these abound.
You can't keep what you are not ready for; money, relationship, opportunities, love, greatness, Fame etc. The power to make what you have lasting depends on how ready you are for it.
Something I am 100% sure of is that everyone is good at something, just that most have not discovered what they are good at yet and sadly they might not.
