What You Need To Know At Twenty

Twenty is the formative age for success, the further you move away from this age the more pressured you get to succeed. However, there are some life facts that you need to know as you approach this age if you want to be really successful. I implore you to carefully read this article.

What You Do Defines Who You Are (and What You Get Out of Life)

We’ve all got that friend – the one who is always talking big, like they’re going to start this amazing new company, write an inspiring novel or change the world. In fact we probably have more than one friend we hear constantly talking about big future plans.

The problem I have noticed with not all, but many of my peers (20-somethings) is follow-through. Ideas are everywhere, but motivation is seemingly nonexistent. Life doesn’t start tomorrow, life is happening right now. Successful people know this and are focused on achieving their dreams and goals 24/7.It’s more than an obsession and a passion, it’s what they are living. Instead of talking, they’re doing.

Does what you’re doing at your day job support your overall life goals?

Are you equally excited for personal projects as you are projects at work?

Do you actually have any personal projects?

Do you have a passion?

Are you refining/advancing your skills and knowledge of something daily?

Do you know exactly what you want in life?

These are all big questions. But I guarantee you successful, motivated and passionate people not only answered yes to all of them instantly, but they even knew the what and why as well without much thought. If you didn’t answer yes to all of these, it may be the day to rethink your life.

I’m 25 and know exactly what I want out of life and the ways I plan to achieve it. In fact, I’ve known for years. One of my peers told me, that “I’m lucky to have found something I’m passionate about.” I disagree with that. I’m not “lucky” to have found it at all, it was a combination of my unquenchable thirst for knowledge, my desire to pursue independent learning and the fact that I can’t stop reading and consuming information.

If you haven’t found it yet, that incredible spark and excitement for life, here’s the reality: it isn’t just going to randomly happen or fall into your lap. It isn’t the result of lots of money, nor is it the result of chance and circumstance.

It is the result of freeing yourself mentally and engaging your intellect. It is the result of breaking away from your peers and delving deeply into a niche. It is the result of focus, determination and motivation. It is the result of an internal drive that is unstoppable.

How do you find a passion? There’s so many engaging, interesting and ultimately fulfilling things to spend your free time (and your work time) doing. The question is how can you not find a passion?

Once you’ve found it, it’s amazing and indescribable – no one can sway your thoughts and your concentration. When you know exactly what you want in life and what really drives you, you’ll never again be bored, tired or unfulfilled. Seemingly boundless inspiration and motivation will be brought forward.

Friends have called me “because they are bored” and I never understood it. I’m not sure how it is possible to be bored, life itself presents infinite challenges and mysteries, but only finite amount of time to explore them. That’s why having a focus is vital – we’re all only given X amount of time to accomplish what we set forth, and you certainly cannot do everything.

People who spend their free time engaged in a passion are happier, more creative and more dynamic in their personality than those who merely spend their time as consumers of vapid entertainment pop-culture. Getting sucked into that is a waste of life and (in my opinion) leaves smart people unfulfilled. It’s essentially fast food for your brain – small amounts once in awhile are fine, but I can’t understand how people live off of it.

Do you come home from work and simply fall down in front of the TV where you spend your time until you sleep? If the answer is yes, perhaps you should consider living life yourself instead of by proxy. You’re going to wake up one day regretting how you spent your limited time in existence. A human lifespan is but a cosmic blink when you consider the age of the Earth, our galaxy and the universe. It’s precious, it’s rare and it is happening right now. To waste it is to give up the ultimate gift.

I feel like most of you reading here understand this, and if you do this post was not for you. It’s for everyone who is living life by proxy and for those of you who haven’t yet found a passion and embraced your true, creative self. It is not too late, you can do it.

Each second, is a new chance

*Each second, is a new chance.*

Find reasons to go on! – Selahsomeone

“Each second, is a new chance”. I’ve heard these words before but now they ring differently. It’s funny that before when I heard them, they didn’t have the same impact. They didn’t make as much sense then as they do now. So I questioned myself, “what have I got to lose?” I am down already what choice do I have? Now, I’m have to act on these words like this is the best piece of advice in the world.

It is true I can’t change what comes next, I can’t change where the wind of opportunity will blow to, I can’t determine what nature has in store for the world but I can change how I respond to life, what I do next is key, a key in my own hands.

Each second, is a new chance. So I will leave the judgement to those that have given up. As for me, I’ve got living to do. A second ago doesn’t matter even if it was adverse. Because I have the next one to look forward to. And the next one after that, and the next one after that. All I must do, is dare to take another step, it is clear to me that giving up is not an option.

Behind the mysteries of life is also the mysteries of choice. Life throws its canon and I shield with my choices. Often times, it is not convenient but if i must survive, I have to make the tough calls. I don’t question the fairness of life because I know it is all in my choices of response to life.

Each second, is a new chance. So my head will stay in an upright position. Keeping my mind on the future, yesterday is meant to be built upon and not to be caged by; If I lose, if I win, I will always have something to build on. It’s all in the same circle of knowledge, wisdom and understanding. So in the end, I will be, just fine. And I won’t waste time judging myself because now I know better.

Each second, is a new chance.

What’s The Use of Knowledge?

What’s the use of knowledge?

What is the use of knowledge that is not applied? In my experience as a counsellor and motivational speaker, I have met so many people, of different colours, background and academic orientation but the most unbelievable sets of people are those that seem to be very vast yet seem not to be so wise. These sets of people usually know the answers to all questions, they are knowledgeable in many fields of life and have overwhelming experiences but they lack the wisdom it takes to harmonize these things. Knowledge without wisdom is pointless.

Wisdom is not about the things you know or how vast you are, wisdom is simple the application of the knowledge you have acquired. What use is a knowledge acquired which doesn’t affect or manifest in our lives or decision making. It baffles me when I see people leaving major decisions that affect their lives to chances and hearsays. It is easy to have big dreams and talk sweet lives but living requires wisdom and taking calculated risk.

The Bible says, “a fool says in his heart there is no God…”. A fool can be a professor, a scholar, rich man or perhaps an impoverished person but so long as knowledge accumulated is not applied, that is foolishness. If you see a bad situation you most likely know the likely outcome, wisdom presupposes you avoid or prevent it but when you are forced into a bad situation then you can always count on miracle to get you out of it. The availability of choice implies the use of wisdom while foolishness effectively neutralizes the possibilities of miracle.

What you have seen, what you have heard and what you have read are what are summed up and called experience. They don’t count for nothing, they are advantages or edges circumstances have bestowed on you to help you outwit most of life trials. Some say “it can’t happen to me”, maybe or maybe not, but believe me, if you walk into fire, there is 99% guarantee you will get burnt. Rules are the same, if you act foolish you will be called a fool. I am not disputing miracles but I also know it is wrong to tempt God by deliberately walking into a trap.

Do not waste the knowledge you have acquired by just storing them without putting them to use. Let your every step be guided by the experience you have gathered over time. Make your goals your guiding principles when taking life’s important decisions. Know that you can’t live life counting on luck or chance. Plan with what you have even though you are hoping for something bigger. Focus on what is real but know that because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Listen to learn and not for argument sake and in all things don’t don’t forsake wisdom.

Letter to My Sons

Dear Sons,

I hope this letter meets you well. I am sure by now you have had lots of unanswered questions, lots of thoughts to ponder over and lots of mysteries the knowledge of book cannot solve. Well, I am here for you but before you get all excited, let me point out to you that I have not come to tell you how to live your life or how to avoid all the problems that comes with living and neither have I come with a one-solution to all life problems however if you are patient to read, you will see life in a whole new clearer perspective.

Sons, life is not easy neither is it fair but life is still what we make it. Whatever life dishes you, remember that doesn’t define you but how you handle it, says a lot about you. If life gives you lemons, boys, make lemonade; if life gives you rock use it to build good shelter; but if life gives you all the good things at first time of asking, my babies please don’t get cocky, invest as much as you can, help people as much as you can and never forget to be thankful as much as you are prayerful.

My Chaps, love is a complex thing. I pray, you both will find a woman that will love you, like a mother loves her child. Movies and Novel will paint love for you in different colours, learn to understand that fiction is different from reality. When wealth comes a million and one ladies will promise heaven on earth, they will throw at your feet the best of behaviours but like the smoke in the can, if you are observant you will see their true colours. You will fall for beauty, your heart will be confused by what your eyes see but boys, never leave your head out, when it comes to making the final choice of whom to marry.

I know I raised you well to have faith in God and in people but you also have to understand that though God will be faithful, people will not always be. My dears, “love all, trust few and wrong none”, as much as practicable. Always try to see the good in everyone, even when people wrong you, your first thought should be, “they must have their reasons”. Don’t be in haste to judge no matter how hurt or excited you get. Know that for every reaction their must have been an action. You will make enemies for sure, it is compulsory if you are on the path of success, but don’t let that give you sleepless nights, it is just natural.

As you must have learned that education will not answer all your questions, that is why I urge you never to stop acquiring knowledge wherever or whichever form it may come. Have mentors, read books, listen when people talk, meditate on everything you have learned and don’t neglect the words of God. I know you both have minds of your own but trust me, it is wise not to neglect the counsel of the elders. You will see people who are better than you, don’t despise them, rather move closer to them and see what you can learn. Even when these people occupy positions lower than yours never be too arrogant to stretch a hand of fellowship, you will be better for it.

Boys, I want you to always remember that when it seems no one is listening, their is always a God who is willing. No matter what tribulations or circumstances or storms life may throw your way never ever question the existence of God. If you read my stories very well you will realize I made my mistakes too but they made me wiser. My loves, you will make yours too, you will learn some lessons the hard way, your mistakes will come with consequences and yes some will make you wish you weren’t born but if you do not forsake God, He will come through for you and turn your mistakes to testimonies.

Finally my angels, know that you have different paths to follow but never forsake one another. Let nothing come between you; not money, not women, not status, not friends, not emotions, not religion, not conviction and not even life. When you are together, like a bunch of brooms you become formidable, difficult to breakdown and a team to reckon with. Love one another more than life and always have one another’s back. I know you have different characters, understand the uniqueness in your individualism, use it to your advantage, complement one another and let there be no cracks on the wall of your brotherhood.

I love you boys, I wish I can be with you forever, I wish I can always be there to set your feet on the right path but life wasn’t meant to be lived forever. I trust you will always make me proud. Love you more than life itself.

Your Dad.
