Do Whatever It Takes

Do Whatever It Takes

Your life, with all its ups and downs, has molded you for the greater good. Your life has been exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the current moment. And every moment of your life, including this one right now, is a fresh start. If you have the courage to admit when you’re scared, the ability to laugh even as you cry, the nerve to speak up even if your voice is shaking, the confidence to ask for help when you need it, and the wisdom to take it when it’s offered, then you have everything you need to get yourself to a better place.

Ordinary people choose the way of I cannot do it; successful people choose the way of I can do it. I think it is time for us to start giving certain words their proper meaning. An example is the word “impossible”. Impossible doesn’t mean it cannot be done, it only means it is yet to be accomplished. Until this is done, man will continually live in the illusion of inability and hopelessness. Provoke your inner energy; Challenge yourself and you will achieve amazing things. Be your biggest competitor – challenge yourself each day to be better than you were yesterday. A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes hard work.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. People who lack the clarity, courage, or determination to follow their own dreams will often find ways to discourage yours. When you change for the better, the people around you will be inspired to change also….but only after doing their best to make you stop. Live your truth and don’t EVER stop.

Whatever you do, do with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best. Whether you want to be a chef, doctor, actor, or a mother, be passionate to get the best result. Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.

You cannot let a fear of failure or a fear of comparison or a fear of judgment stop you from doing the things that will make you great. You cannot succeed without the risk of failure. You cannot have a voice without the risk of criticism. You cannot love without the risk of loss. You must take these risks. I just got one last thing; I urge all of you, all of you, to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm, to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have.

WHO IS IT ALL ABOUT ANYWAY?

WHO IS IT ALL ABOUT?

Many times we must have asked ourselves this question but again I put it to you, “who is it (life) all about?”

Is it about you?

Your friends?

Your family?

Your job?

Or your God?

You may take some time to reflect before you answer me.

Whichever your answer is, you are right because It is how you feel at this moment and probably your past experiences, after all, “we are a product of our past, a brand of our today and the advert of our future”.

Growing up, we were often advised by our parents to be serious and stay focused, then it seemed as if it was all about our parents, the family. In school and other social gatherings, we wanted to feel among (friends), be associated with the best click, it felt like life was about our friends. Working now we want to outshine colleagues, make a name for ourselves, so life seems all about (us) you. In church or mosque, you hear sermons, they talk about God, what He can do and His expectations, at this point life seems all about God.

But hear is what I believe. Our life is about making things work, putting smiles on the faces of people around us and not giving up even when everything seem awkward. When you touch lives, when you make positive changes, when you stand for something, when you ensure that you do your best to make things work, when you follow your dreams and become an inspiration to others, then you would have justified living.

Your life is about everything that matters to you, your life is about making your dreams happen and making your life count. You don’t want to just exist, you want to live and impact, and live so good that stories of you would go on for generations even after you are gone.

Give it (life) a bigger shot; it is never too late to try again. “Know that if it is not working yet then you have not given it your best and if it is working, there is always room for improvement”.

You Have All You Need To Start

You Have All You Need To Start

If you have the passion, if you have a dream, if you have the Will, if you have You, then you have all you need to start! – Selahsomeone

A little bird looked at its mother and said, “mama when I grow big like you, I will fly to the top of the highest mountain and enjoy the coolest breeze of all”.

The mother bird smiled and replied, ” my little angel, if your dream is to one day enjoy the coolest breeze of all on the top of the highest mountain, then you will have to start your flying practice now”.

The little bird stretched its little wings, as if to say mum can’t you see, then said, “mum but you know i can’t fly that high yet, i am just a little bird”.

The mother bird replied, “I know you can’t fly that high yet but then if you want to someday fly that high you will have to start the lessons and attempts now”.

The mother bird went on; do you have wings?

The little bird answered, “Yes I do but they are pretty short!”

The mother probed further, do you have the Will and passion to drive your dream?

The little bird answered, “Yes i do but my friends said i need more than that”.

The mother bird shook her head, finally she asked, do you believe in yourself?

The little bird now not really sure of what to say, murmured, “Yes but i think i need to wait till i have big wings to carry me”.

The mother bird came closer and wrapped her wings around the little bird in a way to comfort and encourage her little baby. She then said, ” my baby, you have all you need to fly to the highest mountain, maybe you can’t fly that high right now but trust me, to grow big you have to start small. You have wings irrespective of the size, you have the Will and you have the dream to follow; that’s all you need. It is good to aim for the highest mountain, to set goals worthy of the future but it is wise to know that to fly to the highest mountain you will have to start from jumping ridges.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin… Zechariah 4:10

Many of us are like the little bird, we have big dreams and aspirations, some even have blueprints of where they want to be but the mistake most of us make is that we forget growing big means we have to start small.

Take for instance;

Steve Jobs all he had were his idea, few friends who shared his vision and a garage to start with

Arnold Schwarzenegger all he had was his body and a terrible English accent

Larry Page and Sergey Brin could not even afford the rent of a garage when they started, they had to wait like a year to get that yet that didn’t stop them from starting Google.

We would always have excuses why we cannot start living our dreams but when we understand the beauty of starting small we will understand that all these excuses don’t hold water; be it finance, personnel, experience, economic situation and so on, they are all things we can pick up along the way. The most important thing is that we start.

Know this, no matter how big and beautiful your dream is, if it cannot not be broken down into achievable pieces, stages, goals or targets then the dream is already self defeated.

Starting small presupposes that you get better per stage at doing something while growing at the same time. For instance, if your dream is become the President of a country, you will have to have achievable pieces or stages like get a political party, establish yourself in the party, try a couple of positions within the party, create big impression in your community, state and country, go for a state position then finally your dream, the presidency. You don’t just hope that you will wake up someday and become the president. Every dream should be capable of being broken down.

The beauty of starting small is that you are able to grow with your dream; along the way you learn from your mistakes, you adjust to reality, you grow into character and finally surpass your initial dream. However, if you are waiting to start big, most likely you won’t even start and when by a stroke of luck you are able to start, if you fail there would definitely be no way back.

You have a dream capable of being broken down, you have the passion, you have the will and you have You, that’s about all you need to start. Take the first step and don’t look back, start from the least and work your way to the top, set goals, have targets and plan stages, and whatever other things you think you need would find their way to you. Start flying now and very soon you will find your way to the highest mountain where the breeze is coolest.

Because Life Has No ‘Control Z’

Because Life Has No ‘Control Z’

How many times have you wished you can turn back the hands of time or undo a decision or an event? The reality is that life has no undo button and the earlier we wake up to that reality the better. You can’t unbreak a heart, you can’t undo what has happened, you can’t go back in time and make some decisions all over again, what is done is done. Don’t live your life looking for way back, it is only a waste of time, there is no way back only way forward, if you don’t want to be stranded.

So you got pregnant while you are still in secondary (high) school, so what? You can’t live your life bemoaning that single mistake. An error in judgement doesn’t mean all has to stop, it only means you have to re-strategize and maybe go it a harder way. Or you went bad and got rusticated from school or worse you ended up doing time for what you are not guilty/guilty of but that shouldn’t be the end of your story, people have moved from pits to pulpits, grass to grace and zero to hero however, the worst thing you can do to yourself is to spend time wishing you can undo the past because sir and ma, what is done is done. You should find the strength to move on, so you don’t get left behind.

Pregnant at 18 or childless at 48, you can still have whatever you desire, one single error in judgement or a yet to be answered prayer can’t stop who or what you are meant to be, it is always yours to decide!

So you had an accident or worse incapacitated from birth, this doesn’t mean it is over, trust me life has just began, you can still make it work, check history. So you had enough before then lost it all or wasted it, believe me, even the prodigal son knew, you can always retrace and restart. In life, there is a big difference between ‘can’t’ and ‘won’t’; most things we say we can’t do are just things we won’t do because we are too scared of failing, yet wishing there could be another way but the hard way.

You can’t unsay the hurtful words you said to someone but you can show how sorry you are to calm their aching nerves, people forgive! You can’t unlive the kind of rough life you had lived in the past but you can make a choice never to go back to it. You can’t go back in time to make amends for the evil you had done to people who genuinely loved you but going forward, you can be the success they all want you to be. Stop wasting time wishing the undo button works, in real life that button is broken, you can only move forward. I know sometimes moving forward comes with heavy heart especially for people who are very emotional, like me but it is just one truth we must all learn to live with, what is done is done.

People will want to tell you to think it through before you act, think twice before you decide but experience has shown that even with eyes wide open we can still fall into ditches. Some pressures are so real that only you know what you are feeling at the time and subsequent decisions you made afterwards. So it is done! In the end it happened, people will want you to feel guilty, yes you should be after all you got yourself into it but don’t get stuck in guilt land, snap out of it, you may not be able to go back and undo those decisions but you can most definitely fix yourself going forward. You can still be whoever you chose to be no matter what time of the day you realize it.

Do you know that some times the route you went through that you are wishing you can undo are actually supposed to be an eye opener for you to see what your dreams entail? Do you know “in the valley of the shadow of death” are where most dreams are inspired? Even still at the jaws of death lies the sweetest of honey, Samson knows better. Rather than get grounded thinking how to undo what is done, keep yourself busy with what it has taught you, how you can solve same problems for others and how you can realign what’s remaining with where you want to be.

The ‘undo’ button might be broken but the ‘fix it’ button is still working well. Stop wishing you can undo what is done, start fixing what is left of your life. And if you have resolved to make the required change, then now is the time; you don’t have to wait till morning, Monday, birthday or new year before you start something new, now is the best time of your life to do what must be done.

My A to Z of Motivation

My A to Z of Motivation

Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.

Bradley Whitford

A- Accepting: Accept who you are that’s the starting point, if you want to be a better you. Accept others for who they are, that way you expect less from others and more from yourself.

B- Boldness: You have to be bold to stand out. There will be castigations, humiliations and reproaches but if you want to be outstanding, you must be bold enough to stand alone.

C- Closure: Forgive and let go, life gets easier that way.

D – Dream: Dream big…it will cost you nothing but it would give you everything you have ever wished for.

E – Everyone is Special: Growth is all encompassing, if you want to grow, you must open your mind to people growing around you, after all everyone is special in their own way.

F – Failing can be beautiful, so also is falling. Most times the best life changing lessons are learned after a fail. When you understand the concept of failing forward, success would eventually find you.

G – Gratitude: Be grateful for what you have no matter how small or insignificant you think they are. They are someone’s prayer request and once they were all you could think of. Only a great fool is not grateful.

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

Norman Vincent Peale

H – Help in any way you can. Give, encourage, listen, advise, inspire, challenge, help in every capacity you can, somehow, it will impact on your own life too.

I – Information. Information is a key to success, gather it, analyse it and interpret it and most of all make use of it on time.

J – Justice: Be just in everything you do and in all your dealings; with the young and old, big and small, rich and poor. Be fair as humanly possible, only do to others as you would expect them to do to you.

K – Knowledge is power. Make it your job to know, make your findings, don’t rely on just the information you have but make efforts to know details. Knowledge will always set you apart from others in a highly competitive world.

L- Live: Many people are alive without living, you start living when you start taking risks, it is nice to live simple but simple life seldom impacts on history.

M – Miracle is all about faith. We all need miracle once in a while but the first miracle we need is faith. With faith comes courage and with courage comes possibilities.

N – Nurture your talent. Everyone has something they are good at, it is just natural. Whatever yours is, nurture it and find a way to make people buy into it.

O – Optimism: A pessimist sees it far worse than it is, a realist sees it for what it is but an optimist sees it for what it can be. Don’t be down because of what today holds, be optimistic and focus on what tomorrow has in store.

P – Possibilities: If you can conceive it, then you can create it. Nothing is impossible with the right tools, information, knowledge and will power. No matter how difficult it is for people to believe it is doable, if you can dream it, then you can do it.

Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.

Pope John XXIII

Q – Quality stands you out. Give your best no matter the situation. Don’t sacrifice quality for any reason, if it must be done by you, then it must be the best of you.

R – Read: You can’t grow yourself without growing your mind. Read wide, expand your horizon and be without bounds. Information is the key to breaking new grounds.

S – Sex like all matters in relationship is sacred.

T – Time: Time waits for no one, don’t waste yours. The best time to start is yesterday, the second best time is now. Don’t procrastinate no matter how inconvenient it feels, if it must be done, then now is the time.

U – Uniqueness: Be unique by being you. You are Special by creation, don’t become less by trying to be someone else. Be yourself, improve on who you are on daily basis and your uniqueness will speak for you.

V – Valable relationships: People you know are to a large extent the measure of how far you can go. Build valuable relationships and value people in your life. Water your contacts and don’t wait till you need assistance before you reach out.

W – Will power is that unstoppable force that keeps you going against all odds. For every fall, there must be a rise, even to grounds higher than before.

X – X-factor: eXtra is all it takes to move from being ordinary to being extraordinary. Go a step further than the rest, push a little harder than the rest, give more than others will give, in everything you do, don’t forget the extra.

Y – You are the most valuable person to you. Understand yourself, love yourself and appreciate who you are. You are your best shot at being successful, have faith in yourself and give yourself time.

Z – Zeal is everything. You have to be able to push, even when you have got nothing to go on, you still have to keep pushing. It is called the never say die attitude.

Cross It And Move On

Cross It And Move On

I am not a fan of Broadcast; be it BBM or WhatsApp, and those who have my contacts know I never respond to such, especially those that give ultimatums, “send to 10 people in 5 minutes and get unexpected miracle”, come on who are we kidding. Anyways, as much as I am not on the same wavelength with broadcasts, I still get to go through some and one of such is the one I want to share with you now. Kindly read and let’s learn together.

When I started using “PENS” in primary school, I often made mistakes. I would try hard to erase them. Sometimes I used chalk, but it later reappeared. So I began to use saliva, it worked but only to leave holes in my book. My teachers then used to beat me for being outrageously dirty. But all I tried to do was cover my errors.

One day, a kind hearted teacher called me aside. “Little girl, anytime you make a mistake, just cross it and move on. Trying to erase it would only damage your book”.

“But, I don’t want people to see my mistake and laugh at me”, I protested.

“Trying to erase it will make more people know about your mess, and the stigma is for life. The best way to handle your mistakes is to Cross it and move on. Don’t try to create more irredeemable errors by trying within your powers to erase or cover your earlier errors”

I am sure you have gone through it and you have learnt a thing or two but in case you missed some of the lessons, here are few I picked from this:

1. Making mistakes is part of growing, the only way not to make mistakes is not to try something new, unfortunately that’s a life time Mistake on its own.

2. You shouldn’t try to cover up your mistakes because doing so would lead to more mistakes, make your flaws more obvious and eventually make your life all dirty and filled with holes.

3. Don’t be afraid or shy to own up to your mistakes, because that’s the only way you learn from them. People may make fun of you, call you names and even make you feel less but you will be better for it.

4. Cross your mistakes because what is done is done. Forgive yourself and let the guilt go. Don’t carry the burden of your past mistakes, it will weigh you down and stop you from reaching new heights.

5. Move on with your life. Yes! You may have goofed but that’s not the end of the world, you have got to move on. Try something else, something new, mistakes are filled with lessons, lessons that can be used to build something more precious.

No matter how many times you may have made mistakes, don’t forget you are only human, mistakes are bound to happen, people who truly love you would still hang around, just cross your mistake and move on. Every new day affords you a fresh start, just like a new page, don’t  make it rough by focusing on erasing your past mistakes rather channel your energy in to moving forward and charting a new course for yourself.

Some People Just Wear It Better

Some People Just Wear It Better

In a beautiful car was a woman so elegant, all dressed up and looking like the world was at her beck and call. Then there was this traffic at the ever busy road of UI (University of Ibadan), a woman with triplet seized the moment and rushed to this woman to beg for alms. The woman with her triplet peeping through the window of the fancy car, said to the woman, “please help us, we have not eaten for the past two days, my kids are hungry, I just wish I didn’t have them“. The woman in the fancy car with cloud of tears in her eyes, searched through her purse took a thousand naira note and gave it to the woman, then she said, “how I wish I could have just one child instead of all these riches“.

Everyone is passing through something but some people just wear it better. Don’t think that what you are passing through is the worst, we are all in life’s ocean being rocked by the waves of circumstances. Though it may seem on this ocean of life few are in a ship, couple in a boat, some in a canoe and others on a raft but no matter where you find yourself, the waves of life’s storm are just inevitable. It will hit in different forms, times and shapes, the truth is, only you know how bad it hurts but as much as it hurts don’t take it out on someone else because everyone has something they are struggling with too.

I have seen students with admission but can’t afford the fees, I have counseled students with wealthy parents yet can’t make it through the required exams to secure admission but then I have met grduates with all the good grades yet can’t seem to figure out what to do with their lives. I have seen people who struggle to get by each day yet they live over a hundred years while people with so much more can’t make it pass sixty years of age. I have shared tables with someone who had it all smooth, like life was made for him, I almost questioned God “what I did wrong why my life wasn’t like his” but then like a candle in the wind, he burnt out so fast and without a trace, and a part of me had to be thankful for the life I have.

We are all on this ocean together; it storms, it thunders, sometimes a glimpse of rainbow, then sunshine but whichever comes to you first, don’t forget everyone is passing through something, some just wear it better.

If you look back you would realize there were so many situations you thought you wouldn’t survive but here you are, you survived them all, there were many things you thought you wouldn’t achieve but inch by inch you got them all covered while there were things you thought if you didn’t get, it will mean the end for you but then even though you didn’t get them you are still standing; you beat the odds on daily basis! You are more than you give yourself credit for, you are a survivor.

So put a smile on your face, no matter what life throws at you, don’t be about your problems rather be about the solutions. Think positively, even the worst situations can still be made better. Don’t use negative words on yourself, don’t give up on what matters to you, don’t quit no matter what and above all don’t hate others because you think they are having it easy, remember, everyone is passing through something, some just wear it better.
